Leadership:

Long David Liu is a Chinese American lawyer based in Southern California, where he has practiced law since 2005. For over two decades, he has dedicated his career to helping individuals and families find justice, understanding, and strength through the legal system—viewing each case not merely as a legal matter, but as an opportunity to uphold truth, fairness, and compassion in a complex world.

Brief background:

His story is deeply rooted in faith, family, and an unwavering belief in the promise of America. As the nephew of Venerable Master Hsing Yun (星雲大師), the founder of Fo Guang Shan and a globally influential leader in modern Buddhism—often called “the Pope of the Buddhist world”—Long grew up immersed in the teachings of Humanistic Buddhism (人間佛教). This philosophy emphasizes applying compassion, wisdom, and ethical living to everyday society, education, and service to others. Master Hsing Yun's guidance shaped Long's core values from youth: compassion as strength, discipline as respect, and selfless service as the ultimate Long's upbringing reflected the immigrant experience—arriving in America with faith, hope, and hard work rather than privilege. He credits the United States with providing education, opportunity, and a voice, viewing these as both a gift and a responsibility. This gratitude fuels his patriotic commitment: to contribute to a stronger, more united nation grounded in justice, liberty, and ethical leadership.

As a lawyer, Long serves clients from diverse backgrounds—immigrants seeking stability, families navigating challenges, entrepreneurs protecting their livelihoods, and individuals fighting for fairness. He approaches the courtroom with courage, conviction, and empathy, seeing it as a place where truth can prevail when guided by wisdom and integrity.

In founding and leading the Buddhist Patriots Society, Long seeks to extend his family's legacy of service while bridging timeless Buddhist principles—compassion, mindfulness, non-violence, and wisdom—with patriotic ideals of civic duty, unity, and love of country. He believes enlightened patriotism means serving America responsibly, healing divisions through selfless action, and building a more just and peaceful nation for all.

Big Supporter of Peace Monks

Supporting the Peace Monks is a practical way to turn Buddhist values into visible public service. David did the following contribution to turn support into actions:

  • Created platforms for peace: helping organize or host public events (talks, community meditations, peace rallies) so more people can participate.

  • Mobilized volunteers and partners: connecting local communities, temples, and civic groups to show up, serve, and learn.

  • Amplified the message: using the organization’s website, communications, and networks to spread a message of non-violence, compassion, forgiveness, and healing.

  • Provided organizational backbone: coordinating logistics, outreach, fundraising support, and follow-up—so the pilgrimage becomes a sustained community effort, not just a one-time moment.

By supporting the Peace Monks Walk for Peace, David Liu and the Buddhist Patriots Society help translate Buddhist values—compassion, non-violence, forgiveness, and mindfulness—into public service for national healing. This partnership creates opportunities for communities across America to gather, reflect, volunteer, and act with wisdom and unity. In a divided time, a peaceful pilgrimage reminds us that love of country can be expressed through ethical leadership, selfless service, and a commitment to peace for the benefit of all beings.
